DonJoy X4 Smart Brace With Motion Intelligence
Background
With an aging population staying in the workforce longer and obesity on the rise, demand for total knee replacement surgery is expected to exceed 3 million by the year 2030. DonJoy came to Enventys Partners wanting to create a revolutionary cloud-based brace that monitors total knee arthroplasty patients’ recovery and compliance in real time, enabling on-demand, insightful patient/physician connectivity throughout the continuum of care.
Enventys Partners worked with DonJoy to create a post-operative knee brace that provided support and key functionality while incorporating the DonJoy Motion Intelligence Sensor technology.
Our Approach
Enventys Partners worked with DonJoy to create a post-operative knee brace that provided support and key functionality while incorporating the DonJoy Motion Intelligence Sensor technology.
To begin, the Enventys Partners team focused on creating a hinge and a way to drive the range for the motion sensor. The hinge needed to have an adjustable range of motion control of 45/60/75/90 degrees flexion and 0/10/20/30 degrees extension.
The product development team also created aluminium uprights that provide medial and lateral support to the knee and can be positioned to contour to the knee anatomy.
Additionally, the team had to find a way to suspend the circuit in a casing so it would be splash-proof.
The Results
Within six months of beginning the process, Enventys Partners created the X4 knee brace to fit the specifications laid out by DonJoy. The product now has national distribution across DonJoy’s sales chain.
