In a world full of new innovations that seem to hit the market every day, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd. Too often a great idea gets overlooked because it lacks recognition. Don’t let the world miss out on your design; here’s a list of some of the best product design awards you should consider applying for next year.

iF DESIGN AWARD 2018

Since 1953, iF International Forum Design GmbH has hosted the iF DESIGN AWARD competition. They receive over 5,000 submissions each year from 70 countries around the globe. Winners receive their award onstage at the iF design ceremony at BMW Welt in Munich, Germany, along with a slot at the Hamburg exhibition, a quality seal for their design, their own profile in the iF WORLD DESIGN GUIDE (the largest digital platform on the internet where all past iF prize winners are exhibited) and press coverage of their design. For fees and evaluation criteria, visit the iF World Design Guide website.

2018 submission deadline: Sept. 29, 2017 with a last chance registration due Oct. 20, 2017.

Red Dot Award in Product Design

While closed for 2017 and not yet open for the 2018 round, the Red Dot Award is one to keep your eye on. Backed by the Design Zentrum NRW, the Red Dot is one of the most sought-after marks of quality in the design world. The sponsors offer 47 categories in which designers and manufacturers can enter their designs. The best product in each category is awarded the Red Dot: Best of the Best award with a single, overall winner receiving the ultimate Red Dot distinction. Honorable mentions are also granted.

2018 submission deadline: TBD

IDEA: International Design Excellence Awards

The IDEA is an annual international design competition hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America. The competition is judged by design experts from around the world. In addition to worldwide publicity, winners receive an IDEA winner logo to display on their website, packaging, advertising and merchandise; inclusion in the Yearbook of Design Excellence and the IDEA online gallery; and a trophy (awarded to gold, silver, and bronze winners). Selected winners will be showcased at The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and may go on to become part of its permanent collection. Design entries are also displayed online, with a People’s Choice Award granted to the IDEA design that receives the most votes online.

IDEA’s judging of design excellence is based on design innovation, user experience, benefit to the client, benefit to society and the appropriateness of the design’s aesthetic. The 2017 IDEA ceremony and gala will be held at the High Museum of Art, part of the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta with another ceremony open to the public on Aug. 19 at the Rich Theater.

2018 submission deadline: TBD
