Shark Tank brings out the hopeful entrepreneur in all of us. If you are seeking more entrepreneurial stories, there are countless podcasts similar to Shark Tank for the business-minded or the startup enthusiast. These seven Shark Tank-like podcasts are perfect for your next commute.
Podcasts are becoming more popular than ever, and the accessibility to produce your own podcast means many people are starting their own. This is often intimidating for new listeners who don’t want to sort through tons of podcasts before they find the right one. Luckily, we’ve done the work for you.
These seven Shark Tank-like podcasts are perfect for your next commute.
1. Startup
In this podcast about starting a business, co-hosts Lisa Chow and Alex Blumberg craft each episode’s narrative in a style similar to the popular podcast, Serial. Startup tracks the story of a company from the beginning to its current status. The first season is particularly interesting because it follows Gimlet Media, the media company that produces the podcast.
2. How I Built This
How I Built This is a podcast by NPR that tells the stories of innovators and entrepreneurs. Each episode follows a founder’s personal journey, and the featured innovators are the best of the best. Past guests have included Rod Canion of Compaq Computers and toy creators Melissa and Doug Bernstein.
3. The Pitch
This podcast is the closest to being the podcast version of Shark Tank. Gimlet Media hosts an open call for start-ups, and ten finalists pitch their idea to a panel of 5 investors. If an investor is interested, they will make an offer on the spot. Each pitch is recorded and turned into a new episode for the show. The Pitch claims to be a “better, more realistic version of Shark Tank”. Season 2 premieres June 14, 2017. The Pitch is currently accepting applications for Season 3 start-ups until June 30, 2017.
4. Side Hustle Show
Nick Loper of Side Hustle Nation interviews flourishing entrepreneurs in this podcast inspired by the gig economy. The podcast runs longer than others on our list, but this enables Loper to go in-depth with his interviews for actionable tips and proven business strategies. While this podcast deals mostly in service-based start-ups, these entrepreneurs still offer valuable advice for people with pursuits outside a typical 9-5. Topics have included everything from Facebook advertising and SEO to growth hacking and producing digital products.
5. 20 Minute VC
Harry Stebbings is an ambitious teenager with a very successful podcast. 20 Minute VC provides inspiration, advice and insight from accomplished venture capitalists, and each episode is the perfect length for any commute. Stebbings is an upbeat and positive host, and he releases a new episode each week.
6. Open for Business
Co-produced by eBay, Open for Business discusses the problems people face when starting a new company. Each episode features a discussion between multiple guests with insightful advice and memorable experiences. Season 2 topics include “Creating a Workplace Culture” and “Customer Service in the Digital Era”.
7. Art of the Kickstart
Art of the Kickstart is our favorite podcast similar to Shark Tank, only partially because we produce it. Art of the Kickstart interviews influential crowdfunding campaign creators about what they did well and lessons learned. It is the go-to source for entrepreneurs and inventors who are interested in crowdfunding.
Successful entrepreneurs face countless challenges and overcome many obstacles; podcasts similar to Shark Tank are a great way to learn more about these start-ups and the innovators behind them.
